Hillcats Score Four Goals In The Second Half To Defeat Ouachita Baptist

CLAREMORE, Okla. – No. 21 Rogers State men's soccer (6-2-2, 3-1 GAC/MIAA) scored four goals in the second half, which resulted in a 4-1 victory over Ouachita Baptist (0-7-3, 0-2-2 GAC/MIAA) Thursday evening at Soldier Field.

Four Hillcats scored goals in the game. George Robinson and Marcos Vasallo each scored a goal, along with Luke Morgan and Matthew O'Reilly scoring their first goals of the season. Ruben Carrasco, Hugo Martin and Robinson each tallied an assist and Sebastian Hernandez tallied two assists. Declan Viljoen (5-2) earned the win and made two saves but gave up one goal in the 72nd minute.

The first half saw no goals scored. RSU held the advantage though in the first 45 minutes as they outshot the Tigers 9-6 and kicked four corner kicks, while Ouachita only recorded one corner kick. The Hillcats created chances to score but could not capitalize. RSU created a great scoring opportunity in the 40th minute when O'Reilly had an open net as the keeper was off his line, but unfortunately his shot went above the crossbar.

The second half was a much different story, as it saw RSU outshoot the Tigers 16-5. The Hillcats wasted no time in the period as they scored a goal in the 53rd minute when Robinson broke the stalemate as he headed in the first goal off a cross from Hernandez. In the 61st minute, RSU struck again when Vasallo scored, with two quick passes from Hernandez and Robinson. Morgan got in on the action as he scored a goal two minutes later in the 63rd minute on a brilliant pass from Martin. Ouachita ended shutout as CJ Washington found the back of the net in the 72nd minute off a pass by Inza Coulibaly. However, the Hillcats answered when O'Reilly scored in the 83rd minute, with an assist from Carrasco to put the nail in the coffin for the 4-1 victory.

RSU will close out its two-game home stand on Saturday, Oct. 7 as they host Harding. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
