Hillcats Get Their First Win Of The Season In Convincing Fashion Over Cameron

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's basketball (1-2) earned their first win of the season in a dominant 74-64 win over Cameron (1-2) in the home opener on Wednesday.

Five different Hillcats finished in double figures in the game. Isaac Johnson led RSU with 15 points and seven rebounds to go with six steals. Kofi Hamilton added 12 points with seven rebounds, four steals, an assist and a block. Both Caden Fry and Sam Davidson added 11 points with Fry pulling down two rebounds, two steals and an assist while Davidson added two steals, a rebound and an assist. Rodney Battle contributed 10 points, four rebounds and an assist.

As has been the case early in the season, the Hillcats started slow as the Aggies dashed out to a 8-3 run to start the game. However, they quickly found their footing and ripped off a 9-2 run of their own to go up 12-10. Things grew tight for the next few minutes as the teams traded points with three lead changes before Cameron came out on top with an 18-14 lead with 9:48 left in the half. Starting at the five-minute mark, RSU went on a 9-0 run to jump back in front 28-24 and carried a 34-30 lead into the break.

The second half saw the Hillcats begin to assert their will as they carried over their momentum from the end of the first half and slowly built out their lead with multiple point runs, taking their first double digit lead at 52-42 with 11:08 left. A 13-5 run gave RSU its largest lead of the night at 67-49 with just over five and half minutes remaining. However, the Aggies refused to die and tried to mount a comeback but came up short as the Hillcats eventually took the 74-64 victory.

RSU will be back in action on Thursday, Nov. 30 as they begin MIAA play hosting Nebraska Kearney inside the Expo Center. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
