RSU Enjoys Record-Setting Night Against Kansas Christian

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (2-1) took care of business with a record-breaking performance in the 128-19 win over Kansas Christian (0-6) on Thursday.
 
This was the most points scored in a single game in school history, shattering the previous record of 110 against Oklahoma Wesleyan on Nov. 29, 2010. The most points in the Division II era previously was 107 against Randall on Nov. 14, 2019.
 
Eight of the 10 Hillcats finished in double figures in the game. Cayden Mershon led RSU with a career-high 18 points to go with six assists, three rebounds and three steals. Alayzha Knapp put up 16 points with five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Breanna Fowler added 15 points with five assists, two rebounds and three steals. Both Kylee Day and Marianna Minotto scored 14 points apiece with Day adding four rebounds, a block and a steal and Minotto pulling down six rebounds with three assists, two steals and a block. Destiny Jones earned her first career double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds to go with five assists and two steals. Trinity Jackson also posted 12 points with eight rebounds, two blocks and an assist. Finally, Amaya Gallegos contributed 11 points with six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
 
After the Falcons got the first bucket of the game, RSU went on a 26-0 tear before allowing another point. Both Knapp and Jones led the scoring with six points apiece in the quarter and the Hillcats as a team shot 51.9 percent from the field making 14 of their 27 shots.
 
In the second quarter, RSU outscored KCC 38-6 and took a 70-13 lead into the break. The Hillcat shooting improved in the period as they shot 70.8 percent, going 17-for-24 from the floor. Mershon led the home team with seven points in the quarter to put her at 10 points for the first half.
 
In the third quarter, the Hillcats dropped 32 points and held the Falcons scoreless from the floor, with their only points coming from two made free throws in the period. Mershon increased her point total to 16, going 2-for-2 from downtown.
 
RSU closed the game out putting up 26 points in the final 10 minutes to claim the 128-19 victory. For the game, the Hillcats shot 59.8 percent from the field, including going 13-for-27 from three-point range. They were 5-for-10 from the charity stripe. This also marks the most assists in a single game in school history with 32.
 
The Hillcats will return to action in a quick turnaround as they face off against Haskell on Saturday, Nov. 18. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
