CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's basketball (3-2, 2-0 MIAA) stunned Fort Hays State (5-2, 1-1 MIAA) in a 76-63 rout on Saturday.
Â
Shooting an outstanding 11-17 from downtown, this is most threes made by the Hillcats since they made 11 against Northeastern State at home last season on Feb. 4.
Â
Three Hillcats finished in double figures in the win.
Isaac Johnson led the way with 21 points, two steals, an assist and a rebound.
Rodney Battle added 18 points with four rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Caden Fry put up 14 points with a team-high five assists and three rebounds.
Anthony Marshall Jr. contributed nine points with four rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
Â
After back-and-forth possessions to start the game, the Hillcats got the offense rolling as they went on a 10-4 run to take a 14-8 lead with 14:32 left in the period. The Tigers managed to battle back and tied the game at 21-21 and again at 23-23. However, RSU responded with a 20-4 run over the final eight minutes of the half, including two 10-0 runs, to carry a 43-27 advantage into the break.
Â
In the second half, FHSU slowly went to work chipping away at the deficit as they were able to get the lead down to 10 points at 48-38 just over five minutes into period. That would be as close as they would get though as the Hillcats began rebuilding their advantage and eventually took their largest lead of the game at 76-55 with 4:50 left. They eventually took the victory 76-63.
Â
RSU will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 6 as they go on their first MIAA road trip of the season to Emporia, Kan. to face off against No. 21 Emporia State. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
