CLAREMORE, Okla. – Roger State baseball head coach
Chris Klimas earned his 200th career win as the Hillcats (5-1) swept Rockhurst in a doubleheader to earn the series sweep on Saturday.

GAME 1 – RSU 7, RU 6 (7 Innings)

The Hawks wasted no time getting on the board as they put up four runs in the opening frame. The first run came in on a bases loaded hit by pitch. A RBI single to first scored the second run. An error by the shortstop scored the two final runs. Â

Rockhurst added two more runs in the top of the third to push out to a 6-0 lead. A two RBI single to right brought in both runs.
Â
In the bottom of the fourth, the Hillcats came to life as they exploded for six runs to tie the game.
Ramon Torres walked and moved to third after
Gavin Mestas doubled down the right field line. A.J. Folds was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs.
Prescott Horn cleared the bases with a double to left center that plated Torres, Mestas and Folds.
Jesse Holguin returned the favor as his RBI single to right center brought in Horn.
Joel Escalante was hit by a pitch to move Holguin over to second. After a pitching change,
Andrew Howard scored Holguin with a single to center. Escalante scored as
Major Due was caught stealing after pinch running for Howard.

RSU completed the comeback in the bottom of the sixth with one run to seal the 7-6 win. Folds tripled to center field to lead off the inning. Horn singled to left to bring home Folds.

Andres De Leon (1-0) earned his first win of the season working 1.2 shutout innings out of the bullpen only allowing three hits with a strikeout.
Octavio Sanchez (3) earned the save. Thomas Jones (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season.

GAME 2 – RSU 11, RU 1 (7 Innings)

In the second game, it was the Hillcats that struck first with two runs in the first inning. A.J. Folds and
Gavin Mestas led off the frame with back-to-back singles.
Jesse Holguin brought both of them in with an RBI single to right center.
Â
They tacked on another run in the bottom of the second to go up 3-0. Folds doubled to right center. Mestas plated him with a double of his own down the left field line.

The Hawks got a run back in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-1. The run scored on a RBI single to center.

RSU extended their lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Ramon Torres and Folds hits back-to-back singles to start the inning. On a 1-0 count, Mestas went yard with a three-run bomb.

The Hillcats added another run in the fifth inning.
Carson Cheatwood earned a walk on a six-pitch full count at bat, and later stole second. Folds brought him in with a RBI single.

RSU pushed across three more runs in the sixth inning to go up 9-1. Horn singled to left and Holguin earned a four-pitch walk. Escalante plated Horn with a sacrifice fly to right.
Geovanni Blackshaw singled to left to bring in Holguin.

The Hillcats walked off the run-ruled 11-1 win with a two runs in the seventh inning. Cheatwood and Torres both earned full count walks to start the inning and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Horn cleared the bases with a walk-off single down the left field line scoring both Cheatwood and Torres.

Rece Parker (2-0) earned the win working 6.0 innings only allowing two hits and the one run with nine strikeouts. Landon Carr (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season.

The Hillcats will be back in action at the Diamond Sports Complex on Friday, Feb. 17 as they begin a four-game series with Missouri-St. Louis. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
