RSU Shuts Out RiverHawks In Non-Conference Match

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer (3-1-1) rolled to a 3-0 win over rival Northeastern State (0-2-3) for their third shutout of the season on Friday.

Two Hillcats got on the scoresheet in the win. Amaris Jasso scored twice with Delana King also adding a goal, her first of the season. Alix Tirado earned two assists while Sarah Ovalle logged one assist on the night. Tiffany Brittan (2-1) notched her second clean sheet of the year with six saves.

The match started with a feeling out period between the two sides in the early goings. However, that ended in the 23rd minute as Amaris Jasso fired in a shot off an assist from Alix Tirado to break the stalemate and give RSU an early 1-0 lead. Just four minutes later, Delana King found the back of the net in the 27th minute with another assist from Tirado to go up 2-0. Things settled in for the remainder of the period with the RiverHawks taking 10 total shots in the period compared to the Hillcats six, with both sides taking four shots on target.

The second half saw more defensive pressure applied by both sides. Once again NSU managed to outshoot RSU with nine shots compared to four, but the Hillcats made their shots count with three on goal compared to the RiverHawks two. In fact, in the 65th minute, Jasso struck again this time off a pass from Sarah Ovalle to seal the 3-0 win.

RSU will wrap up the three-game road trip on Sunday, Sept. 17 as they travel to Wichita, Kan. for a non-conference matchup against Newman. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
