RSU Comes Up Short Against Central Oklahoma On The Road

EDMOND, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (7-8, 2-7 MIAA) came up short in a 69-60 game on the road to Central Oklahoma (3-12, 2-8 MIAA) on Saturday.

Alayzha Knapp led all scorers with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds along with two assists and two steals. Destiny Jones added 10 points with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Trinity Jackson finished two points shy of her own double-double with eight points and a team-high 11 rebounds with an assist.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair after the Hillcats opened the game on a 5-2 run. The period saw nine lead changes with five ties and neither side able to get more than a single possession lead. After trading buckets for the entire quarter, the Bronchos came out on top as they carried a 22-19 lead into the second period.

UCO carried their momentum into the final 10 minutes of the half as they ripped off a 9-4 run midway through the period for a 31-23 lead with just over four minutes left in the half. They eventually pushed that advantage out to 10 points as they took a 37-27 margin into the break.

The Hillcats bounced back in the third quarter as they went to work trimming the deficit with a 7-1 run out of the locker room to get the lead down to 38-34. They paired that with a 12-4 run that gave them the lead back at 46-45 and carried a slim 48-47 advantage into the fourth quarter after outscoring the Bronchos 21-10 in the period.

Unfortunately, they couldn't hold on as UCO responded with a 16-5 run to start the final period and again take a double digit lead at 63-53 with under four and half minutes left. Despite their best efforts, RSU couldn't mount another comeback as the Bronchos eventually claimed the 69-60 win.

The Hillcats will return home on Thursday, Jan. 18 as they play host to Lincoln to begin a two-game homestand. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
