PITTSBURG, Kan. – Rogers State women's basketball (8-10, 3-9 MIAA) fell 82-48 on the road to Pittsburg State (13-5, 7-5 MIAA) on Wednesday.
Alayzha Knapp led the Hillcats with 18 points to go with four rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.
Alyza Aikins added eight points with three rebounds and an assist.
Kaya Goldsby and
Kylee Day both contributed six points a piece with Goldsby adding a rebound and a steal while Day added four rebounds and two assists.
The early moments of the first quarter were a back-and-forth affair with five lead changes and three ties in the first five minutes of the game. RSU came out on top with a 10-8 lead. With the Hillcats up 12-10 with four minutes left, the Gorillas found their footing and closed out the period on an 11-2 run to go back up 21-14. They rolled that momentum into the second quarter as they opened on a 6-1 to take their first double digit lead at 27-15. They didn't look back for the remainder of the half as they outscored RSU 24-10 and carried a 45-24 advantage into the break.
The second half was all Gorillas as they outpaced the Hillcats 21-13 in the third quarter. They took their largest lead of the game at 82-45 late in the fourth quarter and finished with a 82-48 win.
The Hillcats close out this two-game road trip on Saturday, Jan. 27 as they stop in Joplin, Mo. to face off against Missouri Southern. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
