WICHITA, Kan. – Rogers State men's soccer (4-4-2, 4-0 GAC/MIAA) rolled to a 4-1 win over Newman (5-4, 2-1 GAC/MIAA) to continue their undefeated start to league play on Saturday.

Three Hillcats found their way onto the scoresheet, with
Louis Bassett striking twice and
Alex Fletcher and
Marcos Vasallo each adding a goal. Despite giving up the second half goal,
Declan Viljoen (4-4) was solid in net for RSU making six saves.

Both teams got out to a hot start with seven total shots in the first seven minutes of the match. However, it would be the Hillcats that struck first in the 22nd minute as Bassett found the back of the net off a pass from
Noah Preston-Watkins. In the 43rd minute, Fletcher fired a shot in off an assist from
Lawson Ford to give RSU a 2-0 lead headed into the half.

The Hillcats didn't let up in the second half as Bassett scored his second goal of the day to increase the lead to 3-0 in the 60th minute with an assist from
Erik Hjertsson. Newman finally got on the board in the 63rd minute to trim the lead to 4-1. In the 75th minute, RSU earned a penalty kick.
Marcos Vasallo lined up and drilled the ball home to seal the 4-1 win.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12 as they travel to Bethany, Okla. to face off against rival No. 19 Southern Nazarene. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
