CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (6-5) cruised to an 84-17 win over Randall (5-4) on Claremont Day at the Claremore Expo Center on Wednesday.
Â
With the Hillcats holding the Saints to just 17 points, RSU tied the MIAA record for the fewest points allowed in a single game. This matched Lincoln's 85-17 win over Harris-Stowe State all the way back on Nov. 24, 1997.
Â
Four Hillcats finished in double figures in the win.
Cheyan McDaniel led all scorers with a career-high 16 points to go with three rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Bailey Layman added 14 points with two rebounds and an assist.
Destiny Jones put up 11 points with three rebounds and two steals.
Ella Hafer contributed 10 points with six rebounds, two steals and an assist. As a team, the Hillcats swatted seven shots with
Michelle Arens accounting for four of the block shots.
Jaiana Wiggins was also a force in the post as she scooped up 11 rebounds with seven coming on the offensive end.
Â
RSU was on fire from the tip as they outscored Randall 25-7 in the first quarter. The Saints scored all their points in the first four minutes. RSU nearly held them to a scoreless second quarter as the Saints went just over 15 minutes without scoring and put up four points in the final 48 seconds of the half.
Â
After leading 44-11 heading into the third quarter, RSU continued their defensive dominance as they held Randall to only six total points in the second half. Just like in the first quarter, the Saints got all four of their points in the third quarter in the first four minutes. It looked like the Hillcats would again try to shut out Randall in the fourth quarter until the Saints scored their lone layup of the period with 3:36 left.
Â
With RSU claiming the 84-17 win, the Hillcats lit it up from beyond the arc with 11 three-pointers in the game. Both McDaniel and Layman went 4-for-6 from downtown, with McDaniel going 6-for-8 from the field overall.
Â
RSU will return to MIAA play on Sunday, Dec. 22 as they close out the calendar year on the road in Edmond, Okla. with a meeting with Central Oklahoma. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
