Hillcats Drop Season Opener Against Henderson State

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Rogers State baseball (0-1) couldn't complete the comeback in the season opener against Henderson State (1-0) in the first game of the Dugan Invitational on Thursday.

After a hitless top of the first inning, the Hillcats jumped on the board as Geovanni Blackshaw drove in AJ Folds with a sacrifice fly to left to go up 1-0.

The Reddies responded in the second inning putting up three runs to jump in front 3-1. A bases loaded hit by pitch scored the first run with a RBI single and a RBI fielder's choice scoring the other two runs.

HSU added another run in the top of fifth to go up 4-1. The run scored on an error by the catcher as part of a failed pickoff attempt at third.

In the bottom of the seventh, RSU got the run back to cut the deficit to 4-2. With runners on second and third, Folds brought in Ramon Torres with a RBI groundout to first.

Once again, the Reddies answered back with a run in the top of the eight to seal the 5-2 win. The run scored on a leadoff, solo home run to right.

Ryan Galvan (1-0) earned the win, with Henry Coppens (1) earning the save. Colton Anderson (0-1) took the loss after throwing 4.0 innings with three hits and three earned runs.

The Hillcats will be back in action tomorrow as they face off against No. 17 Southern Arkansas in the Dugan Invitational. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
