Hillcats Stun Ichabods In Upset Win At Home

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (9-11, 4-10 MIAA) stunned Washburn (11-9, 6-8 MIAA) in a 65-54 upset win inside the Claremore Expo Center on Thursday.

Alayzha Knapp led all scorers with 25 points to go with a team-high seven rebounds, a block and a steal. Destiny Jones posted nine points with three rebounds and an assist. Both Alyza Aikins and Trinity Jackson contributed seven points apiece with Aikins adding five assists and four rebounds while Jackson added six rebounds and an assist.

After going down 7-4 in the first two minutes of the game, the Hillcats responded with a 17-3 run to go up 21-10 with 1:47 left in the opening quarter. Despite five quick points from the Ichabods to close out the period, RSU carried a 23-17 lead into the final 10 minutes of the half. The Hillcats regained their momentum in the second quarter as they started the period on a 7-2 run to go back up 30-19. An 8-2 run to finish the half put RSU up 38-25 going into the break.

They didn't let off the gas in the third quarter as they eventually took their largest lead of the game at 46-31 midway through the period. However, Washburn began to mount a comeback in the final three minutes as they ripped off a 9-1 run to get within seven points at 49-42, but a late layup by Kamryn Estell pushed RSU back out to 51-42 heading into the final period.

Despite their best efforts, the Hillcats were able to hold off Washburn in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 14-12 and shooting 10-for-12 from the free throw line.

RSU will look to carry their momentum into Homecoming Saturday on Feb. 3 as they welcome Emporia State into the Expo Center. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
