Hillcats Season Comes To An End In MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – No. 5-seed Rogers State men's basketball (17-12, 14-8 MIAA) saw their season come to an end in an 87-64 game against No. 4-seed Washburn (19-10, 14-8 MIAA) in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament on Friday.
 
Three Hillcats finished in double figures on the night. Isaac Johnson led RSU with 16 points and two rebounds. Rodney Battle added 14 points with five rebounds, two steals and an assist. Kofi Hamilton logged a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists, a block and a steal. Caden Fry contributed eight points with six rebounds and an assist.
 
RSU came out of the gate on a 7-2 run to start the game. However, the Ichabods quickly found their footing and used a 7-0 run of their own to jump in front 9-7. Over the next several possessions, things went back and forth with two leads changes and a tie. However, Washburn came out on top with a 19-15 lead. They then ripped off an 8-1 run to push out to a 29-20 margin. The Ichabods took their largest of the half at 37-25 and carried a 37-27 lead into the break.
 
The second half was all Washburn as they opened the period on a 5-0 run to take a 42-27 advantage. They managed to outscore RSU 50-37 in the second period and eventually claimed the 87-64 win.
