MUSKOGEE, Okla.. –
Lydia Sitorus and Rogers State women's golf opened the season with a bang and claimed both the team and individual championships at the NSU Women's Classic on Tuesday.
"I am proud of this group and their fight," said Head Coach
Whitney Hocutt. "They never let a bad shot get to them and kept playing hard for their score and for the team. One of the main things we always talk about is being grateful; these ladies put that in this event and their positivity was absolutely contagious. I cannot wait to see what else is in store for the season."
After 36 holes at the Par 71 Muskogee Country Club, the Hillcats won the tournament with a card of 573 (+5), nine strokes ahead of second place.
"It was a great first event, all of our qualifying rounds leading up to the event were close and the entire team pushed one another," said Hocutt. "
Lydia Sitorus coming back today and shooting -3 to win was a lot of fun to watch. She played very steady.
Brianna Maddux played the best event in her collegiate career, and I cannot wait for the momentum to continue for her. Then Milena played fantastic in her first ever event as a Hillcat. Lauren and Kristin rounded us out and they played really great golf and fought for 36 holes."
Sitorus won the individual title after shooting 138 (-4) over the two rounds. In the final round, the senior fired a 68 (-3) with two birdies and only one bogey.
Brianna Maddux finished one stroke behind in a tie for second place with a card of 139 (-3) for the best tournament performance in her career. In her first tournament as a Hillcat,
Milena Andres finished in 16th with a card of 147 (+5).
Lauren Anderson finished in a three-way tie for 18th with a 149 (+7).
