Morefield Heads North for NCAA Championship Race in Wisconsin

RSU school record holder will compete in Kenosha Saturday at 10 a.m.

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Junior Amy Morefield will wrap up her historic season for the No. 29 women's cross country team at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The top-40 contestants for each gender will be crowned NCAA All-Americans. Morefield will look to be the first female to earn this distinction.

WEATHER FORECAST
This weekend's weather in Kenosha is a bit unusual for this time of year. At 10 a.m., when Morefield is scheduled to start, the forecast calls for partly cloudy skies, with a temperature of 44 degrees but a feel like 54 degrees.

ALL EYES ON AMY
The Fairview, Texas, native has been exceptional for the Red and Navy in her first season with Matt Kennedy's Hillcats, after previously running at the University of Tulsa. She has played a crucial role in elevating new standards for the nationally recognized RSU women's cross country team, which achieved a program-best national ranking of 16th and finished as runner-up at the conference tournament, just one point shy of claiming its first-ever title.

She will compete as an individual at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday, following a historic performance at the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships on Nov. 8 in Joplin, Missouri. She secured her spot by finishing fifth, the best in Hillcats WXC history, with a new school record in the women's 6K with a time of 21:08.27. As a result, she garnered All-Region recognition by the NCAA and the USTFCCCA.

The junior became the program's first champion at the Distance After Dark race and achieved a program-best fourth-place finish at the MIAA Championship, earning All-MIAA First Team honors. Morefield was named MIAA Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Mohawk Sports Complex and also finished fourth at the MSSU Southern Stampede and won the Golden Eagle Invitational.
