RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The GAC/MIAA announced its Week 9 Men's Soccer Players of the Week on Tuesday, and RSU senior
Artur Carvalho was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week. This marked his second honor of the season and his third career honor.
A native of Faro, Portugal, Carvalho anchored the Hillcat defense in a dominant 4-0 victory over in-state rival Southern Nazarene. He provided an assist on the game-winning goal against the Crimson Storm and played a key role in limiting SNU to just five shots on goal during the match.
Fort Hays State's Jackson Elgas also received the honor after helping the Tigers to a pair of shutouts against Ouachita Baptist and Harding.
No. 18 Rogers State men's soccer will conclude the regular season with matches Thursday and Saturday against Northeastern State (8-6-2, 5-5 GAC/MIAA) and Harding (2-12-2, 0-9-1 GAC/MIAA).
The first match against the RiverHawks is set for 7 p.m. at DeLoache Field. Earlier this season, the Hillcats secured a 1-0 victory over NSU in Claremore, with
Sam Ryder netting his first goal of the season in the 41st minute. RSU boasts a 10-4-3 record against NSU, winning four of the last five contests held in Tahlequah.
The regular season will wrap up at Soldier Field against Harding at 1 p.m. Saturday, featuring senior day events prior to kickoff. RSU claimed a 5-0 win over Harding in Searcy, Arkansas, on Sept. 25 and holds a 9-2-2 record against the Bison.
