SPRING, Texas – No. 18 Rogers State women's golf wrapped up competition at the weather-shortened Southern Invite on Monday.
Â
"What a fantastic event," said head coach
Whitney Hocutt. "Our ladies showed today what we can achieve. It is still early in the spring season, and we were on top of the leaderboard at one point today. In the 15-team field there were eight top 25 ranked schools, and we showed that we belong amongst the best of the best. We just needed to play our last 9 holes a little better and cleaner, and I have no doubt that will come. I am proud of each of the ladies for the way they responded and played. Thank you to Cypresswood and UCO for hosting."Â
Â
After 36 holes at the par 71, 5,898 yard Cypresswood Golf Club, the Hillcats finished in a tie for third after turning in a card of 593 (+25).
Â
"We were led by
Lydia Sitorus with a 2nd place individual finish," continued Hocutt. "She led the field most of the day and she played very well. We are really proud of her and the way she played this event.
As a freshman,
Milena Andres responded well after struggling to find a rhythm and caught a couple of bad breaks in the first round. The way she bounced back and counted for our team in the second round is exactly what we needed as she was +1 in her final nine holes today.
Brianna Maddux played extremely solid. She caught a couple of unlucky breaks but stayed poised and managed her game so well!
Lauren Anderson responded well and had great composure with 21 pars for the day.
Kristin Gudmundsdottir played really solid golf and had a great swing all day today and was confident all 36 holes."
Â
Lydia Sitorus led the Hillcats in a tie for second after shooting 142 (E), including a first round 69 (-2).
Kristin Gudmundsdottir finished in a five-way tie for 16th with a card of 149 (+7).
Lauren Anderson finished in a group of seven tied at 30th with a 152 (+10).
Brianna Maddux finished in a three-way tie for 44th with a 154 (+12).
Milena Andres rounded out the squad in a four-way tie for 66th with a 161 (+19).
Â
The Hillcats are back in action on Monday, March 10 as they return home to host the 10th Annual Hillcat Classic at Bailey Ranch Golf Club.
