CORINTH, Texas – The Rogers State women's golf team opened the DBU Classic in the Lone Star State on a rainy Monday at Oakmont CC. Due to inclement weather, the day was shortened to a single round and postponed for four hours.
After 18 holes of action, the Hillcats finished the day tied for eighth with a score of 296 (+8). The defending national champions and host, Dallas Baptist, holds a commanding eight-stroke lead after shooting 284 (-4). UT Tyler (+4) and Arkansas Tech (+5) rounded out the top five.
Sophomore
Milena Andres led the Hillcats in the opening round of the tournament. The Villa Allende, Argentina, native is tied for 21st after shooting a 73 (+1). She recorded two birdies on the front nine, finishing that stretch at +1, and maintained an even par on the back nine with two additional birdies.
Senior
Brianna Maddux and junior
Lauren Anderson are tied for 30th, just one stroke behind Andres, each scoring 74 (+2). Freshman
Lou Fourdan finished the round tied 41st with a score of 75 (+3), while junior
Rylan Ashley concluded the day tied for 56th with a score of 77 (+5).
Rogers State will conclude the DBU Classic tomorrow morning in Texas. The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m., barring any weather alterations.
