ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Rogers State men's soccer (6-0-2, 2-0-0) used a pair of second-half goals to defeat Ouachita Baptist (1-4-2, 0-2-0) on Saturday at Kluck Field.
The first half between the Hillcats and Tigers began with both teams pushing for an early lead. Ouachita's Philip Bolk tested RSU's goalkeeper
Jaxon Kendall (6-0-2) with a shot in the 14th minute, which was saved. The Hillcats responded with a series of offensive attempts, including shots by
Grayson Horsley and
Noah Preston-Watkins, both saved by Ouachita's Dillon Staal. RSU earned multiple corner kicks throughout the half, but neither team found the back of the net, leaving the score tied at 0-0 by the end of the first half.
RSU took control in the second half with a strong offensive performance against OBU. Preston-Watkins opened the scoring in the 61st minute, assisted by
Brandon O'Rourke, giving RSU a 1-0 lead.
Oliver Hemlin extended the advantage to 2-0 in the 71st minute with his first career goal following a well-placed volley from
Louis Bassett. Despite efforts from Ouachita, including a shot by Jacoby Welsh that went wide, RSU maintained its lead, supported by a series of corner kicks and shots, including a late attempt saved by Staal. The match concluded with RSU securing a 2-0 victory.
Hemlin scored one goal and completed the match with two shots on goal from three attempts. O'Rourke contributed to the team's efforts with one assist and attempted three shots. Preston-Watkins secured the game-winning goal, converting both of his shots on goal. Kendall posted his sixth shutout with one save, facing seven shots on goal.
Staal stood out in goal for Ouachita, making four saves on 15 shots faced, including two saves in each half. Bolk led the team in offensive efforts with two shots and one on goal, while Welsh also contributed with two attempts.
RSU will return to action on Thursday with a marquee matchup at home against No. 17 Fort Hays State. Kick off from Soldier Field is slated for 7:00 p.m.
