No.10 Jennies Score Five to Down Hillcats on Sunday

RSU will return to action on Friday to take on Pitt State in Kansas

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Rogers State women's soccer (0-3-4, 0-1-1) fell to No. 10 Central Missouri (4-2-2, 1-0-1) in a 5-0 loss on Sunday at Soldier Field.

The match opened with both teams vying for control, as Hillcats' goalkeeper Calais Butts made crucial saves against the Jennies' early attempts, including two shots from Izzy Joyce. UCM broke through in the 32nd minute with a goal by Coryn Jespersen, assisted by Alexandra Hofbauer, to take a 1-0 lead. RSU's defense struggled to contain the Jennies, leading to a penalty kick by Ryann Clark in the 39th minute, doubling Central Missouri's advantage. Despite several attempts, including a shot by Kenzie Macklin saved by Kristen Wright, the Hillcats could not find the net, ending the first half trailing 2-0.

Central Missouri extended its lead in the second half, starting with Patsy O'Brien's goal in the 65th minute, assisted by Kate Ricker, bringing the score to 3-0. Maryn Clement then added another goal for UCM in the 71st minute, with an assist from Hofbauer. Clement struck again in the 89th minute, assisted by Hannah Borgstadt, to finalize the score at 5-0. Cats' goalkeeper, Butts, made several saves, including a notable stop in the 62nd minute against O'Brien. Despite multiple attempts, RSU could not capitalize on its offensive opportunities, including shots by Delana King and Raegan Bailey that went off target.

Butts recorded nine saves in goal for the Hillcats, facing a total of 23 shots. Macklin registered one shot on goal, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Shelby Sepulveda added two shots, though neither found the target. Khari Carreno also attempted to break through the defense with one shot during the match.

Clement led UCM with two goals, all four of her shots being on target. Clark made an impactful contribution with a goal from her single shot attempt, converting a penalty and ensuring it was on goal. Hofbauer provided crucial support with two assists and registered two shots on goal out of three attempts. Jespersen delivered the game-winning goal with her only shot on goal. Wright, in the goalkeeper position, notched one save in 76 minutes of play, contributing to a clean sheet performance.

Rogers State will return to action on Friday in Pittsburg, Kansas, to take on the Pitt State Gorillas (5-1-1, 0-0-1). Kick off from Gorilla Soccer Pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
