Hillcats Fall to No. 18 Washburn on Friday Night

The Ichabods used four goals in the second half to claim the 4-0 victory

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Rogers State Women's Soccer (4-5-2, 2-4-0 MIAA) fell to No. 18 Washburn (10-1-1, 6-1-0) 4-0 on Friday at Soldier Field.

RSU kept the match scoreless through the first half, but WU scored all four goals after halftime. The Hillcats finished with nine shots, including four on goal, while the Ichabods put 13 of their 29 shots on frame.

The Hillcats kept the Ichabods off the board through a first half in which Calais Butts made four saves, allowing the match to reach halftime at 0-0. Earlier, RSU absorbed immediate pressure as the Ichabods earned a corner 21 seconds in and took several early shots, with Butts recording her first save in the second minute. The Cats created their first looks midway through the half, as Khari Carreno shot wide left in the 21st minute and Bella Holland missed high in the 22nd minute. The defense had to hold again later in the half, with Butts stopping three Ichabod's attempts between 24:38 and 27:47 before another shot went wide at 29:45. RSU added late first-half attempts from Carreno and Taylor Mendez, and a physical stretch with four combined fouls from 28:17 to 33:09 produced no cards before the scoreless halftime break.

RSU absorbed an early second-half surge without conceding, with Butts making three saves before Holland put a shot on frame at 52:20. Carreno forced another save at 56:30, but the Ichabods broke through on Avery McCorry's goal in the 59th minute to make it 1-0. Butts added two more saves in the 62nd minute before the Ichabods scored in the 74th minute, 75 minute and 82nd minute to push the score to 4-0. The Hillcats kept pressing late with corner kicks at 82:55 and 86:07, a saved shot from Zoe Wehrman and a wide attempt from Rylen Walters, but the match finished with the Ichabods ahead 4-0.

Butts (4-5-1) recorded a season-high nine saves over 76:44 in goal. Carreno led RSU with three shots, putting one on frame. Wehrman put both of her shot attempts on goal.

RSU will return to action Sunday at 1 p.m. against Newman at Soldier Field.
