Hillcat DMR Teams Highlight Strong Showing on First Day of MIAA Championships

RSU established nine PRs on their opening day of action in Pittsburg

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The RSU Distance Medley Relay (DMR) teams stole the show in an action-packed day of the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
 
The women's distance medley relay team of Sisely Mitchell, Kenzie Gilliam, Stella Jones, and Cadence Cordova finished as the All-MIAA runner-up with a time of 12:04.95, just behind Northwest, which clocked in at 12:04.20.
 
The men's DMR team of Blake Feron, Phillip Owens, Ian Conder, and Nathaneal Gibson set a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:56.39, finishing fourth. Pittsburg State won the race with a time of 9:46.49, followed by Missouri Southern and Northwest Missouri State.
 
Isaac Conder kicked off the day's events in the 600y, finishing ninth with a season-best time of 1:12.58.
 
In the 800m, Sam Russell secured 10th place with a personal best of 1:54.34, while Jaxson Wheeler closely followed, finishing 13th with his own personal best of 1:56.07.
 
Cade McCall led the way in the 5,000m, finishing ninth overall with a personal best of 15:03.39. Cohen McIntosh shone as well, securing 13th place with a personal record of 15:08.27. Jack Morgan claimed 21st place with a personal best of 15:23.54, while Nathan Hernandez finished 22nd in 15:25.78. Lee Davis rounded out the day in 25th place, clocking a personal best of 15:39.89.
 
For the women in the 5000m, Brooklyn Garafola finished 11th with a time of 17:37.77. Kaylee Nay took 13th place with a personal best of 17:56.86. Emily Cruz secured 16th with a season best of 18:12.85. Brooke Martin placed 17th, achieving a personal best of 18:15.59. Kiera Blumhof rounded out the group in 22nd with a personal best of 18:30.39.
 
RSU track and field will conclude the MIAA Indoor Championship tomorrow, beginning with the mile at 1:30 p.m.
