FAQ
  1. How often does the RSU Dance Team practice and what is the time commitment?
    1. Our dance program is a year-long commitment. Our Season starts in June and ends in May. We practice 4-6 hours a week during the school year. Additional practices can be added during our GameDay Season, and Nationals practices will take place from October through April. In addition to practice time, throughout the fall and spring semesters, our dancers attend and perform at campus events, men’s and women’s home basketball games, and community events.
  2. Does the team practice in the summer?
    1. Yes. We attend NDA college dance team camp in the summer and schedule practices to prepare before camp. The team also practices during the summer to prepare routines for the upcoming season.
  3. Is the team required to work out?
    1. Yes! Health and fitness are key components of our dance program. Weekly team workouts are scheduled with our RSU strength coach. Dancers are also encouraged to engage in additional training at the gym and take strength-based classes.
  4. Do you have any academic requirements?
    1. To remain eligible, student athletes must have at least a 2.0 GPA and be a full-time student (currently enrolled in 12 hours each semester).
  5. Are there any financial obligations?
    1. No. Our program is under RSU Athletics, so our team is provided with everything that we need to be successful (including uniforms, practice gear, and funds for traveling). Extra funds are raised for our RSU Dance Foundation by our team fundraisers, the RSU Dance Booster Board and sponsor donations.
  6. What RSU sports do you dance for?
    1. The RSU Dance Team performs at men’s and women’s home basketball games.
  7. Does the RSU Dance Team compete at Nationals?
    1. Yes. The RSU Dance Team competes in the DII Hip Hop category at DTU: The College Classic National Competition in Orlando, Florida.
  8. Do you offer scholarships for student athletes?
    1. Yes! Scholarships are given at the coach's discretion. They are promised for the academic year and vary from season to season.
  9. Do you have any members from out of state?
    1. No. We currently do not have any members from out of state, but we would love to see future Hillcats from all over audition for our dance program.
  10. What if I’ve never had a dance team experience?
    1. Members of our team are former studio dancers, gymnasts, cheerleaders, as well as dance team members.
  11. If I am a member of the RSU Dance Team, will I have time to participate in anything else?
    1. This totally depends on you. Dance takes up a considerable amount of time, but many of our dancers are involved in other campus organizations and/or hold part-time jobs.
  12. How do I become a member of the RSU Dance Team?
    1. The RSU Dance Team uses a Recruitment Model which includes an Interest & Prospect Athlete Form, Video Submissions, References, Interviews, and an Audition. Please visit our Recruitment Page to Learn More. All students enrolled at Rogers State University are eligible to audition for the team. We welcome all majors.Â
