Sergio Espinal begins his first season as assistant baseball coach at Rogers State in 2013.

 

Espinal brings over 20 years of experience as a collegiate baseball coach including 19 years as an NCAA Division II head coach. He was the head coach of Northeastern State University (Okla.) from 2000 to 2011 playing in the Lone Star Conference.

For the last year, Espinal was head baseball coach for RBI Baseball in Tulsa, Okla. working with the War Ducks an elite summer team.

Prior to joining the RiverHawks he spent eight years at Lincoln University (Mo.) as head baseball coach. Playing in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Conference he led the Blue Tigers to three conference tournament appearances including reaching the finals in 1998 and 1999.  He compiled an LU best record of 148-212-5 over his eight years leading the Blue Tigers.

A native of New York, Espinal played collegiately at Oklahoma State as a middle infielder for coach Gary Ward. He helped the Cowboys to four consecutive NCAA College World Series berths in the 1980s. In his four years at OSU the Cowboys were Big Eight Conference Champions and NCAA Regional Champions all four years.

Espinal spent time in the Chicago Cubs minor league system before attending the University of North Texas where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. He later earned his Master of Arts in Physical Education from the University of North Alabama where he served as a graduate assistant.

He is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Oklahoma Coaches Association (OCA), and the Oklahoma Alliance for Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (OAPERD). Espinal will serve as an instructor of physical education at Rogers State.
