Cody Johnson joined the Hillcats as an assistant coach in August 2022.
Johnson brings seven years of coaching experience to the Hill. He comes to RSU after two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma. While there, he helped the Cougars increase their win total in each of his two seasons. Johnson guided a team that ranked in the top 40 in the NJCAA in steals per game, assists per game and field goals per game in both seasons. He coached three All-Region players, including Josh Robinson who was the leading scorer in NJCAA Region II.

Prior to his time at Redlands, Johnson spent one season at Kilgore College in Texas as an assistant coach. With the Rangers, he helped guide the team to a third-place finish in NJCAA Region XIV, ranking as high as No. 18 in the nation. That season, he coached four All-Region selections that included three players who transferred to NCAA Division I programs.

Johnson began his coaching career as a student manager with the Oklahoma Sooners for two seasons beginning in 2015. He was part of the Sooner team that appeared in the 2016 Final Four.

Johnson holds a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma in Multidisciplinary Studies.
