Cyprien comes to RSU after coaching one season with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team Shockas Boys (15 and under) in Hammond, La. under Head Coach Chris Reed. During that same season he coached Jefferson Playground (9-10 year all-stars) in Jefferson, La.

Cyprien started his playing career at Southeastern Louisiana University in 2002 where he became a four-year letter winner for the Lions. After redshirting the 2002-03 season, Cyprien helped lead the Lions to a Southland Conference regular season championship in the 2003-04 season. In the 2004-05 season, the Lions were the Southland Conference Tournament champions and earned an appearance into the NCAA Tournament.

The Cyprien family is rich in basketball. His uncle, Glenn Cyprien, is currently the top assistant coach for the Memphis Tigers and has also made coaching stops at Oklahoma State and Arkansas. His father, Michael Cyprien, played collegiately at Southern University at New Orleans. He also has a sister, Randi Cyprien, who played collegiately at Pensacola Junior College and William Carey University.

Cyprien earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design with a concentration in Design/Drafting from Southeastern Louisiana University.
