Tyler Wayman is in his second season as the top assistant coach for the RSU men's basketball program and his fourth year overall on College Hill.
Wayman returned to RSU prior to the 2018-19 season after previously serving as an assistant coach for the navy and red from 2014-16, including the 2015-16 Heartland Conference Regular Season Championship year.
This past season, Wayman helped coach the Hillcats to their first postseason victory since becoming eligible for postseason play in the move to the NCAA and the Heartland Conference. In his three seasons with the Hillcats, Wayman has helped coach RSU to a 63-25 record.
Wayman made his first stint as an assistant coach at RSU from 2014-16. In his first two seasons on College Hill, Wayman helped the Hillcats to two 20-win seasons, including a 2015-16 Heartland Conference championship with a 23-5 record in his second season. The navy and red combined to go 43-13 in his two campaigns on the RSU coaching staff. He coached two Heartland Conference Players of the Year in JC Hartzler (2015-16) and Frederico Santos (2014-15) along with four All-Heartland Conference selections. Hartzler and Santos also earned all-region honors during Wayman's tenure.
In Wayman's first season at RSU in 2014-15, the Hillcats finished with a mark of 20-8 overall and 14-6 in Heartland Conference play, placing second in the regular season standings, one game behind conference champion St. Mary's.
In between his time at Rogers State, Wayman spent two seasons as the top assistant coach at Eastern New Mexico. During his time as the first assistant at ENMU, Wayman coached four all-conference selections and helped the Greyhounds defeat six top 25 opponents, including wins over multiple nationally ranked opponents in the same year for the first time in more than 10 seasons. In his first season as an assistant at ENMU, the Greyhounds saw a seven win improvement and more than doubled their previous season's win total.
Before coming to Rogers State the first time, Wayman served two seasons as an assistant coach for Wayland Baptist. He was active in the recruiting process for the Pioneers along with scheduling of non-conference and NCAA Division I contests. He was responsible for film exchange and breaking down film for use in review and scouting reports for Wayland Baptist. Wayman organized all team travel as well as study hall and the program's personal tutors.
The Junction City, Arkansas native earned a bachelor of science in education from Arkansas in 2011, where he was a team manager for the men's basketball team for four seasons. Wayman completed a master of sport management from Wayland Baptist in 2014.
