LINDSBORG, Kan. - Rogers State endured a major scare from Bethany College before holding on for a 70-64 win at Hahn Gymnasium in Lindsborg, Kan., on Saturday.
Â
The Hillcats embarrassed the Swedes 116-62 a week earlier on Homecoming at the Claremore Expo. However, Saturday on the Swedes home floor was a different story. Bethany chopped a 17-point second half deficit down to four in the closing seconds. RSU hit 9-of-10 free throws over the final 1:18 to fend off the comeback.
Â
The Hillcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead and remained in control through most of the first half. Abram Donlon scored in the paint just before the half to make it 33-24 at the break.
Â
Senior Bryson Krueger caught fire early in the second half and keyed an 11-0 RSU run. Krueger gave the Hillcats a 17-point lead at 47-30 with 12:13 remaining in the contest. RSU appeared to have the game locked up until the final six minutes when the Swedes came roaring back.
Â
Dilton Gibbs nailed a three from the corner to trim the lead back to single digits, 67-59, with 5:05 remaining. Roddrick Williams hit a baseline jumper to make it a four point game with 3:38 left, 57-53. A layup by Kelby Brown made it one possession game before Krueger drained a three from the wing to push the margin to 61-55 with 2:37 remaining. Gibbs went coast to coast to cut the lead back to four with 90 seconds left, but the Swedes would draw no closer.
Â
Donlon, Aldric Reynolds and Roderick Rodgers combined to hit nine consecutive free throws to preserve the win for RSU. The Hillcats shot just 40-percent for the game and committed 24 turnovers. Donlon recorded his first double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Reynolds led the Cats with 13 points.

Rogers State (4-0) will have the next six days off before hosting Central Baptist College at Bartlesville High School next Saturday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
