Hillcats Roll Over Coyotes, 75-51

CLAREMORE, Okla. - In the second meeting with the Kansas Wesleyan Lady Coyotes, Rogers State came out strong and never relinquished the lead en route to a 75-51 victory at the Claremore Expo on Saturday.

The Hillcats jumped ahead with an early bucket from Hunter Peterson who would end the contest with ten points. Peterson was one of four RSU women in double figures.

Bailey Woods and Hayley Knifechief posted 11 points apiece and Andrea Robinson tacked on an additional 10.

The Lady Coyotes kept things interesting for a while. Charessa Gray cut the RSU lead to six with 5:50 to play in the first half.
The Hillcats pushed the lead back to ten on two free throws by Yoda Woods. Bailey Woods nailed a jumper that made it 31-22 with 3:20 to play in the half.  At the half the Hillcats led 39-27.

The Hillcats entered Saturday's contest averaging 21 turnovers per game. However, RSU turned the ball over a season low 13 times against KWU. The Lady Coyotes gave away 17.

Azzie Knox and Marshay Jasper came off the bench in their first appearances for the Hillcats this season. Both players transferred from other schools and had been awaiting eligibility after the semester break.  Knox was 3-of-10 shooting and added two free throws for eight points on the day.  Jasper scored two points with one assist in her fourteen minutes of play.

Rogers State improved to 6-5 on the season and will return to conference play next week. RSU will host Wayland Baptist next Thursday at the Claremore Expo. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. and can be heard live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
