OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Rogers State endured two long scoring droughts and couldn't keep up with No. 12 Oklahoma City at Abe Lemons Arena Thursday evening.
Â
The Stars held RSU to just 23-percent shooting from the floor en route to an 81-64 victory to complete the season sweep over the Hillcats. Atta Diabate tallied a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for OCU.
Â
RSU didn't record its first made field goal of the game until freshman Hunter Peterson knocked down a jumper with 11:48 remaining in the first half. Peterson's bucket halted a 13-0 run by the Stars that allowed the home team to jump out to a 15-1 advantage. The Hillcats rallied to cut the lead to 10 in the closing seconds of the first half and trailed 36-24 at the break.
Â
However, OCU put together a 16-0 run in the second half and held RSU without a field goal for a seven minute stretch. The Stars made 17-of-27 field goal attempts in the second half and stretched the lead to 30 points with five minutes to play.
Â
Nine different players scored at least six points for the Stars. Yoda Woods led RSU with 14 points and eight offensive rebounds. Azzie Knox added seven points before fouling out. The Stars posted a 32-point win over the Hillcats for the second time this season and moved into sole possession of first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings in the process.
Â
Rogers State (9-9, 5-5) dipped back to .500 and will return home on Saturday to try to complete a season sweep over Mid-America Christian. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. at the Claremore Expo and the game will be aired live on RSU Public Television and RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
