CHICKASHA, Okla. - Rogers State scored three runs in the seventh inning to take the opening game of a three-game conference series with the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Saturday in Chickasha.

Sophomore shortstop Blake Kelley delivered a two RBI single in the seventh to put the Hillcats in front, 4-1. RSU relievers Sam Cornell and Ryan White shutdown the Drovers over the final four innings to secure the win at Bill Smith Ballpark on the campus of USAO.

The Hillcats trailed 1-0 after Cody Hines scored on a sacrifice fly by Louie Romero in the bottom of the fourth. Drovers' starter Brian Hunnicutt kept the Cats in check through the first five innings. Greg Speed started the RSU sixth with a bunt single and raced to third on a single by Kelly. Zach Hamby delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Speed and knot the game at 1-1.

Colby Wright reached on an error to start the seventh and Randy Jones followed with a single to left field. Hunnicutt was lifted in favor of reliever Rickey Duke. Duke promptly issued a walk to Brandon Denton and hit Greg Speed to load the bases. Kelley then made Duke pay with his fourth hit in as many at-bats, scoring Denton and Jones and giving RSU a three-run lead.

Cornell (1-0) picked up the win with three innings of spotless relief. The freshman southpaw allowed no hits and fanned four while yielding a single walk. White escaped a bases loaded jam in the seventh with a line-out double play to record his second save. RSU starter Josh Walker pitched five effective innings as he scattered four hits and allowed just one run.

Kelley went 4-for-5 and upped his batting average to .444 for the season. Jones added two hits as the Hillcats out-hit the drovers 10-to-5.

Rogers State (11-5, 5-4) will look to earn its third conference series victory of the season Sunday. The Hillcats will host USAO in a doubleheader at the Hillcat Complex beginning at 1 p.m.
