Hillcats Ambush No. 25 Oklahoma Christian, 74-46

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State saved the best for last as they overwhelmed No. 25 Oklahoma Christian en route to a 74-46 victory in front of 1,324 fans at the Claremore Expo Saturday.

The Hillcats wowed a large Senior Night crowd with a series of high-flying dunks and long-distance threes against the Eagles zone defense. Junior Matt Kellogg spearheaded the assault with 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting.

OC struggled to score points of any kind in the first half. The Eagles managed just one basket over the first 12 minutes of the game and trailed 21-4 after an 18-1 run by the Cats midway through the first period. Sylvester Spicer beat the halftime horn with a stick-back bucket to give RSU a 29-13 advantage at the break.

The lead swelled to 32 points on a 15-2 RSU run early in the second stanza. The margin peaked at 66-29 when Kellogg drilled his fourth and final three of the night with 6:13 remaining in the contest. Seniors Spicer and Lance Sullivan checked out at the 2:22 mark to a standing ovation from the partisan Expo crowd. Spicer finished with 14 points and eight rebounds while Sullivan added six points, five boards and three assists.

The 46 points scored by the Eagles were the fewest ever recorded by an RSU opponent. All-American Jason Taylor was limited to 14 points and OC shot just 33 percent from the floor overall. The Hillcats shot 53 percent in the second half, including an 8 for 16 effort from 3-point range.

Rogers State (20-10, 13-9) secured its third consecutive 20-win season with the victory and tied John Brown for fifth place in the final Sooner Athletic Conference standings. The Hillcats will play as the No. 6 seed in next week's SAC Tournament and will face No. 3 Oklahoma City in first round action Thursday. Game times and bracket information will be released Sunday by the conference office.
