RiverHawks Rally Past Rogers State, 8-7

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Northeastern State rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning and completed a come-from-behind victory with a run in the tenth to post an 8-7 win at the Hillcat Complex in Claremore Tuesday night.

Chris Gallegos ripped a three-run double off the centerfield wall in the top of the ninth inning to bring NSU back from a two-run deficit. The Hillcats answered with a run in the bottom of the ninth to force extra play, but couldn't keep the RiverHawks off the scoreboard. Taylor Clark worked a one-out walk in the tenth and scored the eventual winning run on a single by Eric McKinney. Five of the final six runs scored by NSU reached base via a walk.

Wasted in the loss was another brilliant effort by freshman left-hander Casey Cassity. Cassity tossed seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits. The Barnsdall, Okla., native racked up eight strikeouts without yielding a walk and left the game with a 4-2 lead intact.

Freshman Frensly Martina surrendered two runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth by giving up three hits and four walks. Junior Drew Taylor (1-1) took the loss after giving up the decisive run in the tenth. Frank Sprick (2-1) earned the win in relief for the RiverHawks.

RSU outhit the Hawks, 9-8, but committed five errors in the contest. Zach Hamby and Colton West notched two hits apiece for the Hillcats while McKinney and Gallegos tallied two each for NSU.

Rogers State (23-18) returns to action Thursday at Mid-America Christian in Oklahoma City. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
