Hillcats Clobber Royals, 96-66

SPRINGDALE, Ark. – Rogers State men's basketball crossed the border of Arkansas for the second time in seven days and for as many times the Hillcats came away victorious, this time exciting the Ecclesia College crowd to a 96-66 victory inside Wildcat Arena on the campus of Springdale Har-Ber High School on Monday night.

 

The Hillcats didn't jump ahead of the Royals by much in the opening stanza leading by 13 points at the most but never relinquishing the lead. RSU entered the half with a 45-35 advantage.

 

The second half saw RSU put on a show with a 20-2 run in the first 5:09 of the period to go up by 28 points.

 

Kenny Edwards led the excitement with four high flying throw-downs going 7-of-8 from the field and finishing with 17 points, leading the Cats in scoring. The Indianapolis, Ind. native's signature dunk came just over one minute into the second half as the junior forward trailed on a fast break, received a drop off by Larry Cox and took off from 10 feet out to hammer home the field goal.

 

A jumper by Cox gave the Hillcats its largest lead at 78-46 with 7:21 remaining. The Byron, Ga. native finished with 10 points as five Hillcats reached double figures in scoring. All ten players that saw action for RSU scored as the Cats went onto a 96-66 victory.

 

Alex Ewings tallied 13 points to go with five assists coming off the bench. Starting point guard Justynn Hammond dished out six assists while scoring 12 points and Kendrell Thompson rounded out the RSU double-digit scorers with 10 points and hauling in seven rebounds.

 

Ecclesia (3-6) was led in scoring by David Eichler with 16 points while Harold Reed tallied 15. The Royals shot 37.5 percent from the field and turned the ball over just 12 times but were outrebounded by RSU 43-25.

 

Rogers State (5-0) after a one-game hiatus from the Sooner Athletic Conference will return to the Claremore Expo to face Wayland Baptist to start a four game home stand.
