Hillcats Corral Chaps, 85-79

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State men's basketball stretched its win streak to seven games as the Hillcats outlasted Lubbock Christian 85-79 Saturday afternoon inside the Claremore Expo.

RSU led the Chaparrals by six to open the contest and held a six point lead at the final buzzer. The 36 minutes between those two points was a different story as the Chaps held control for majority of that time, building its largest lead to 11 points.  LCU held the lead at intermission 45-40.

LCU hit nine three pointers as the Hillcats defense wasn't its usual self. The Cats were able to nab six steals and blocked five shots, including a key swat by A.J. Stewart with 44 seconds remaining.

On the inbounds pass for the Chaps, junior guard Alex Ewings stepped into the passing lane bolted into the front court and threw down a dunk to put RSU up 84-79. Stewart knocked in one of two free throws and the Cats claimed the 85-79 victory.

Kendrell Thompson led all Hillcat scorers with 20 points while adding six rebounds and four assists. Kenny Edwards finished with 16 points going six-of-seven from the field. Larry Cox dropped in 13 points while Ewings finished with 10. The Hillcats shot 54 percent from the field despite hitting just 3-of-17 from behind the arc.

Douglas Williams led LCU with 20 points and Anthony Brancato added 18 points. Jaron Vierra rounded out the Chaps double-digit scorers with 11 points. Lubbock Christian (4-5, 0-2) out rebounded the Cats 41-33.
