CLAREMORE, Okla. - The No. 15 Rogers State baseball team posted a doubleheader sweep over Bacone College on Tuesday evening at Hillcat Complex.
The Hillcats ran away with the opener after an 11-run inning propelled them to a 13-4 victory. In the nightcap, RSU gave up a pair of runs in the first inning however they rallied in the bottom of the first as they scored five runs en route to a 6-2 win and a doubleheader sweep.
GAME ONE
The Hillcats bats came alive in the opener as RSU tagged four Warrior pitchers for 11 hits in the 13-4 rout.
The Warriors took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning with a triple by Dylan Inkman who scored on a sacrifice fly by Rob Ringuette.
RSU rallied in the third. The Cats retired the side in the top of the inning and took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer belted over the right field fence by senior Brandt Barnes.
The Hillcats continued to pour on the offense in the fourth as they plated 11 runs. Randy Ramirez led off the inning with a first pitch solo shot over the centerfield fence. Frensly Martina hit a two RBI double to plate Cody Campbell and Taylor Estes. Campbell then reached home on a single by Cade McKewon. Martina scored on a fielder's choice ground out by Colton West who was safe due to an error to load the bases. Ramirez followed by clearing the bases with a grand slam over the left field fence. The homer marked the Bronx, New York native's second homer in the inning and sixth on the season. Cody Campbell tripled and scored on a double by Colton Campbell. Colton plated the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.
BC chipped away at the deficit in the fifth as they plated three runs on three hits but it wasn't enough. The Hillcat relievers toss scoreless frames to secure the win. Freddy Soto tossed one and two third innings and allowed no hits and no runs while fanning one. Kyle Deaton closed out the seventh and retired the side with a pair of strikeouts and a groundout.
Jordan Clark (4-2) registered the win on the mound for the Hillcats as he tossed four and one third innings and allowed four runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Eric Aguillard suffered the loss for the Warriors as he pitched three and one third innings and allowed nine runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Colton Campbell recorded three hits and Randy Ramirez had two hits.
GAME TWO
The Hillcats used eight hits to post six runs in the nightcap as they registered a 6-2 win.
The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a two RBI double by Mike Miller. The BC lead was short-lived as the Hillcats registered five runs in the bottom of the inning. A pair of singles by Barnes and West put runners on the corners to start the inning. Ramirez followed with a single to center field and tied the game 2-2. Cody Campbell followed with a two-run homer blasted over the centerfield fence to give the Cats the lead. Keith Poverud single to centerfield and scored on a single by Billy Balak.
Senior Jairo Valdez plated the final run of the contest in the fifth inning off a sacrifice fly by Payden Yarmer.
Six RSU pitchers saw action on the mound in the nightcap. Starting pitcher Casey Cassity recorded the no decision with two innings of work. The Barnsdall, Okla. native allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits with two strikeouts. Tyler Brown (5-0) registered the win as he tossed the scoreless third inning. The freshman from Berryhill, Okla. fanned two and allowed no hits.
Rogers State (34-10) return to Sooner Athletic Conference action on Thursday as they host St. Gregory's in a single nine inning game at Hillcat Complex. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
