MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Rogers State women's basketball team suffered its first regular season road loss on Wednesday night as Southern Arkansas tallied an 86-72 victory over the Hillcats.
RSU was plagued with turnovers in the contest, committing 34, leading to 32 points for the Muleriders. SAU opened the game with a 12-2 run, leading by as many as 16 points in the first 10 minutes of play. However, the Hillcats fought their way back into the contest cutting the deficit to five points with just under 9:40 to play in the first half. The Muleriders stretched the lead to 17 points with the help of Hillcat turnovers and took a 49-35 lead into the locker room at the half after Jade Hardy drained a 3-pointer to end the frame on a good note for RSU.
The Hillcats opened the second stanza with a 6-0 run to cut the lead to eight points but SAU matched RSU's run and led by double digits the rest of the way.
Four Hillcats reached double digit scoring led by Katy Harsen with 19 points. Clarissa Cannon tallied her second double-double of the year with 14 points and 10 rebounds while DaNara Day and Mikaila Newton tallied 10 points apiece. RSU shot 35.8-percent from the field and 69.8-percent from the charity stripe.
SAU was led in scoring by Rebekah Knudson with 18 points. She was one of five Muleriders to reach double digits scoring. SAU edged the battle on the boards 50-44 with 22 steals on the night. The Muleriders shot 36.1-percent from the field and 68.1-percent from the free throw line.
Rogers State (1-1) returns to the court on Saturday as the Hillcats travel to Ada, Okla. to take on East Central at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com.
