CLAREMORE, Okla. – While a number of people were focused on a certain Justin performing at the BOK Center, it was coach Justin Barkley's squad that put on a show inside the Claremore Expo Thursday night with a 84-68 victory over Central Baptist College.
The Hillcats got built a 10 point advantage at the half leading 36-26. As in the closing seconds of the first stanza Jonathan Buckley banked in a 3-pointer with seven seconds remaining. CBC's Michael Stevenson's double-clutched a trey from 38-feet the hit the bottom of the net as the halftime horn sounded to close the first half out in style.
RSU came out in the second half, growing the lead to 67-47 with 8:51 remaining on a layup by Robinson Odoch Opong. The native of Canada finished with 15 points.
Deran Banton led RSU with 22 points going 9-of-13 from the field. 10 of the 11 Hillcats that saw time tallied a point in the contest. Jon Bond totaled 12 points and Damien Hooks registered 11 in the victory as four Hillcats reached double-figure points.
Tony Brewster led all scorers with 24 points for the Mustangs. CBC's Xavier Huskey totaled 14 points in the loss as Central Baptist (0-5) shot 43 percent from the field and 25 percent from behind the arc.
The Hillcats connected on 46 percent shooting including 31 percent from long range. Barkley's squad out-rebounded the Mustangs 44-37 with J.C. Hartzler leading the way with seven boards.
Rogers State (3-2) plays host to former Sooner Athletic Conference foe Mid-America Christian Monday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. inside the Claremore Expo.
