LAREDO, Texas - The Rogers State women's basketball team's comeback bid fell short on Thursday evening as the Hillcats dropped a 67-58 Heartland Conference decision to Texas A&M International.
After trailing by as many as 22 points in the second stanza, the Hillcats battled and used a 15-0 run to cut the Dustdevil lead to seven points with 6:31 to play in the game. The team's traded buckets in the final minutes of the game and TAMIU held onto their single digit lead to earn the win.
RSU opened the game with a 5-1 advantage but TAMIU answered with 11-0 spurt to take a seven point lead, keeping it the rest of the night. The Dustdevils led by as many as 13 points in the first half but the Hillcats cut the deficit to nine points at intermission.
Katy Harsen led RSU in scoring with 19 points and Clarissa Cannon followed with her 16 points and 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. The Hillcats struggled from long distance, converting 1-16 from 3-point range. RSU shot 33-percent from the field and 77-percent from the charity stripe.
Malika Jackson and Samantha Chacon led TAMIU with 19 points apiece. RSU won the battle on the boards 44-32.
Rogers State (3-8) returns to action on Saturday in San Antonio, Texas as the Hillcats take on St. Mary's at 1 p.m. RSU Radio 91.3FM will provide live broadcast of the action.
