Hillcats Fall to Lady Chaps, 84-65

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's basketball team dropped an 84-65 decision to Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon at the Claremore Expo.

The Chaps opened the game with a 16-4 advantage but after a 30 second timeout by RSU Head Coach Roxanne Long, the Hillcats settled in and used an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to four points. With less than nine minutes to play in the opening half Mikaila Newton cut the Lady Chaps lead to one point with trey from the top of the arc. LCU answered with a 10-2 run and controlled the rest of the half, taking a 42-31 advantage into the locker room at the break.

The Lady Chaps lead quickly grew to 16 points early in the second half as they controlled the frame. With five minutes to play RSU used a 12-2 run to cut the LCU lead to eight points but that was as close as the Hillcats would get to the lead.

Katy Harsen led the Cats in scoring with 21 points. Clarissa Cannon was the only other Hillcat to reach double digit scoring with 14 points.

LCU was close to flawless at the charity stripe, shooting 93.3 percent on the night, making 28 of their 30 attempts. The Lady Chaps converted 47.1 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from 3-point range. Nicole Hampton led the Chaps with a double-double as she poured in 31 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. The Chaps edged RSU on the boards 39-33.

Rogers State (2-6, 1-4 HC) will return to the court on Saturday as the Cats travel to Bethany, Okla. to take on Southern Nazarene at 3 p.m. Live audio of the contest will be streamed on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live and on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
