OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Rogers State women's golf team began the 2013-14 season with a fourth place finish at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at Lincoln Park Golf Club in Oklahoma City.
After shooting 303 and 299 in Monday's opening two rounds, the Hillcats shot 319 as a team in the third round for a fourth place finish and a 921 team card. Coach Lynn Blevins' squad dropped one spot on the team leaderboard after entering the final round in third place.
Sophomore Kelsey Stuever put together rounds of 78-72-80 for a three round card of 230 to tie for 14th. Stuever finished third in par three scoring as she finished one-under and was the lone Cat to shoot even par.
Raquel Trevino penciled scores of 76-77-78—231 to tie for 17th on the par 72, 6,004 yard course. Freshman Kina Boone was impressive in her first day of collegiate competition with rounds of 74 and 75 before finishing with 231 tournament total to tie for 17th with Trevino.
Chelsea Burney righted the ship after a difficult opening round as the sophomore shot 75 and 79 in the final two rounds for a 236 tournament card and 30th place finish.
Freshman Michelle Tierney saw her scores rise as the tournament continued but shot an opening round 75. The Waterford, Ireland native finished with a 241 to tie for 35th.
Redlands Community College earned the team title with an 895 team score with just one individual score in the 80s. Lina Aguillon of Redlands CC was the individual champion shooting 214 with rounds of 70-72-72. Aguillon finished two strokes ahead of Oklahoma Christian's Anna Arrese. Host Oklahoma City University finished one stroke behind Redlands CC as the Stars shot 896 for a second place finish.
Rogers State will travel to Amarillo, Texas October 7-8 for the Lady Buffalo Invitational at Tascosa Country Club.
