Paige Pontarolo and
Blair Thomas each scored twice leading the Rogers State women's soccer team to a 4-2 victory on the road at Texas-Permian Basin Monday afternoon in Heartland Conference action.
After playing the first 18 minutes without a goal, the teams combined to dent the scoreboard four times over a 10-minute span with RSU jumping in front.
The Hillcats opened the scoring barrage behind Pontarolo's second goal of the season in the 19th minute. Pontarolo took a cross from Thomas and put a shot past UTPB goalkeeper Ebony Campbell to the near post for the early 1-0 lead.
Pontarolo quickly doubled the RSU advantage less than six minutes later scoring directly off a corner kick as her cross was deflected into the goal by Campbell in the 24th minute.
The Falcons answered back 1:28 later capitalizing on a corner kick of their own as Ashley Redwine snuck a header past RSU keeper
Teri Cocke cutting their deficit to 2-1.
Thomas regained the two-goal advantage for the Hillcats in the 29th minute as she tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Carley Johnson got the ball to Thomas after
Amanda Jones started the play on a turnover picking up her first collegiate point on the assist.
Thomas followed the lead of Pontarolo netting her second of the afternoon shortly after the after the halftime break dribbling past the Falcon defense and sending a shot to the right side for a 4-1 RSU lead in the 48th minute.
UTPB got a late goal on another corner kick but the damage was already done as Cocke finished the day with three saves earning her first-career victory. Campbell made four saves taking the loss for the Falcons.
RSU (1-13, 1-4 HC) returns home for its next two matches beginning with Senior Night at Soldier Field Saturday, Oct. 25, when it takes on Dallas Baptist. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m. and can be viewed live on the Hillcat Network at
