TULSA, Okla. – The Rogers State women's basketball team traveled to NCAA Division I Tulsa for its only exhibition contest of the season falling 81-44 Saturday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Kami Bunch got the Hillcats on the scoreboard first converting a pair of free throws but the Golden Hurricane took control from that point going on a 17-point run over the next five minutes.
Amari Jones knocked down a pull-up jumper ending the RSU drought.
Mikaila Newton cut the deficit to single digits hitting a three pointer from the left wing as the Hillcats pushed the ball quickly up the court on a Bunch rebound trailing 21-12.
Tulsa took a 46-18 lead into the halftime break behind a 61 percent shooting performance in the opening half.
After the Golden Hurricane produced a 36-point lead early in the second half, RSU responded scoring the next six points with
Jordan Evans converting an old-fashioned three-point play before Newton dropped her second of three, three pointers in the game down 56-26.
Tulsa closed out the exhibition victory 81-44 as the Hillcats connected on six from behind the arc, including five in the second half, shooting at a 31 percent clip.
Newton led RSU with 12 points while Evans added nine and a game-high 11 rebounds. Bunch finished the game with five assists as the Hillcats turned in 14 assists on 16 made field goals.
Ashley Clark led three Golden Hurricane players in double figures with 17 points and Teanna Reid and Kelsee Grovey added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
RSU opens the 2014-15 regular season next Saturday, Nov. 15, playing host to East Central at the Claremore Expo Center. The contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip off and can be viewed live on the Hillcat Network at
