CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's basketball team suffered a 73-63 loss to Southern Arkansas on Tuesday evening at the Claremore Expo.
Mikayla Newton gave RSU its first lead of the contest, draining a three pointer from the left corner to make it a 5-3 game. The Hillcats pushed their lead to nine points with an 8-0 run capped by a three-point play by
Jalissa Felici. SAU countered with an 11-2 spurt to knot the game at 18 points apiece. The Lady Muleriders gained the momentum, outscoring the Hillcats 9-2 to close out the half to lead 35-28.
The Lady Muleriders opened the second stanza on a 15-6 run to push the lead to 50-34 and held the double-digit lead the rest of the way. SAU led by as many as 20 points in the second frame.
RSU battled back in the final five minutes cutting the deficit to 10 points but ran out of time.
Amari Jones tallied her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Newton rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points.
RSU won the battle of the boards 40-31 but committed 25 turnovers leading to 24 points for SAU. Allie Wade led the Lady Muleriders with 25 points and Shannon Agnew followed with 13 points.
Rogers State (1-3) returns to action Saturday as the Hillcats travel to Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and audio of the contest will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at
