GOODWELL, Okla. –
Breanna Burford scored a career-high 20 points powering the Rogers State women's basketball team to a dominating road win, 85-64, at Oklahoma Panhandle State Saturday afternoon at Oscar Williams Field House.
The Hillcats led for all but three minutes picking up its third win in four games, all in conference play, to split the road trip and set a school record with 26 assists in the game on 29 made baskets. RSU got 40 points from the bench compared to just five for the Aggies as it scored a season-high point total.
Burford had one of the Hillcats' best outside-shooting performances in program history going 5-of-6 from long range as the team hit 10 on the day. The senior's effort ranks third in made three pointers in the eight-year history of women's basketball.
OPSU hit a pair of three pointers taking an early 6-4 lead before RSU went on a 10-2 run and never looked back. The Hillcats took command of the game scoring 17-consecutive points over a seven-minute span as
Madison Dearmin scored the first four of the spree and four others added points during the stretch,
Jalissa Felici, Burford,
Kami Bunch, and
Mikaila Newton. RSU took a 42-16 lead into halftime as
Jade Hardy knocked down a triple before the break.
In the second half, the Hillcats maintained at least a 20-point advantage for the entire stanza and used a 12-3 run for their largest lead of the afternoon, 78-49, and cruised to the road victory, 85-64.
Jordan Evans and
Amari Jones joined Burford in double figures netting 14 and 12 points, respectively, while
Jade Hardy set a career-best with a game-high seven assists. All 10 players that saw the court recorded at least a point while eight different players dished an assist.
