LAREDO, Texas –
Seth Whittington capped his debut season for the Rogers State men's cross country team picking up some major hardware leading the Hillcats to a sixth-place finish at the Heartland Conference Championship Saturday.
Battling the elements thrown at him from Tropical Depression Patricia, the Kansas, Oklahoma native placed third overall and was named Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year, while landing a spot on the All-Heartland Conference team. Whittington finished the race in 26:06.1 to pace the Hillcats, closing the gap between the runners in front of him throughout the race after being in 15th place at the first mile.
Ryan Alexander picked up a top-20 result as his time of 27:43.7 on the wet and muddy 8,000-meter course had him 20th overall of 94 competitors.
Garrett Dyson placed 39th in the season finale for RSU covering the distance in 28:34.4.
Trey Taylor ran to 54th place with a time of 29:13.2, while
Daniel Driskill closed the day for the Hillcats' top five, running 29:50.6 to finish 62nd overall. One spot behind the junior, freshman
Cruz Chavez placed 63rd in 29:53.0 and
Coty Fox ran 30:31.9 finishing 70th.
In its first season eligible to win the title, Oklahoma Christian claimed the team title with six of the top eight finishers, led by individual champion Brennym Kaelin.
The race marked the final competition in the four-year career of RSU's lone senior
