Hillcats Strand Eight in 3-0 Loss at Oklahoma Christian

EDMOND, Okla. – The Rogers State baseball team could not come through with clutch hits stranding at least two runners in three innings falling 3-0 at Oklahoma Christian from Dobson Field on a rainy Friday afternoon.

The Hillcats left eight runners on base in the seven-inning game, scheduled to be part of a doubleheader that had to be cut short due to rain. Seven of the RSU starting hitters recorded one hit going 1-for-3 from the plate.

The Eagles got the scoring started on RSU starter Mason Marquette as Zac Cobble got a lead-off single and later scored on a two-out single by Ben McKenzie for a 1-0 lead in the first.

RSU got singles from Blake Gipson and Chase Knott in the second but failed to capitalize and OC took advantage adding two unearned runs in the fourth following a fielding error building a 3-0 advantage.

Cesar Rodriguez quickly doubled to left in the top of the fifth as the Hillcats looked to claw back into the game. Austin Culwell provided a one-out single and Alex Cochran drew a one-out walk loading the bases. Caleb Kohlmeyer stepped to the plate as the go-ahead but was struck out by OC starter Dillon Endecott ending the threat.

RSU opened the sixth inning with back-to-back singles off the bats of Trae BoBo and Andrew Vanisi before the next three batters all failed to drive them home.

Marquette (2-3) suffered the complete-game loss allowing all three runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out two in six innings of work. Endecott (2-1) got the shutout for the Eagles on the mound scattering seven hits over seven innings fanning 11 batters.

RSU (7-10, 0-4 HC) and OC will attempt to play a doubleheader Saturday to close the weekend conference series starting at 1 p.m.
