Beaird, Kenjic Power Hillcats Past Bearcats

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State offense got into rhythm Tuesday afternoon powered by a pair of goals from both Dylan Beaird and Danko Kenjic in a 6-1 win over Southwest Baptist at Soldier Field.

The Hillcats (1-1 overall) did not wait long to put up the opening tally as Beaird connected on a perfect cross from Timothy Nuckols just 11:05 into the match. The senior scored for the second-consecutive game with a half volley past SBU starting goalkeeper Lajos Zadravecz as the Bearcats fell to 0-3 on the year.

Kenjic tallied the eventual game winner in the 27th minute curling a left-footed free kick from 28 yards out inside the near post for a 2-0 RSU advantage. Edward Hubbard made it 3-0 for the home side less than five minutes later sending a header to the back of the net on another perfect cross, this time off the foot of Kevin Howard, who finished the day with two assists.

Beaird was at it again early in the second half, scoring his team-leading third goal of the season in the 55th minute. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native redirected a ground-ball pass from Lars Lindtner to the near post giving Lindtner his second assist of the match.

After the Bearcats got on the board to make it 4-1, Kenjic buried his second of the game rifling a shot to the side netting far post. Abe Young closed the scoring for the Hillcats in the 82nd minute with his first collegiate goal bending a strike from 30 yards to the far post.

Cody Gammill (1-1) picked up the win in goal for RSU making one save while Mitchell Penton made one save during the second half allowing one goal. SBU's Zadravecz (0-3) made five saves giving up all six goals and Zack Ross played the final eight minutes turning aside one shot.

The Hillcats face their first road challenge of the season Sept. 11 heading to Arkadelphia, Arkansas for a matchup with Ouachita Baptist at 2 p.m.
