WACO, Texas – Rogers State's
Michael Fusselman was named the Heartland Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week following a complete game shutout in his final start in the navy and red.
Fusselman, a Melissa, Texas native, capped his two-year RSU career with a complete-game two-hit shutout win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Friday as the Hillcats swept the Aggies in the three-game series. Fusselman went the full seven innings and struck out a career-high seven batters needing only 76 pitches. He allowed only three base runners with two singles and one hit by pitch. The right hander ended his career with three straight wins and was the ace of the starting rotation with seven wins and a 3.60 ERA.
It's the second time Fusselman has been named Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week as he earned the honor his junior season on May 4, 2015. Fusselman threw his first complete-game shutout in a win over Newman on April 24, 2015 totaling six strikeouts to earn the award for the first time.
The Hillcats finished the season 28-22, their most wins since the 2013 season, and 13-14 in the Heartland Conference.
