Women's Basketball Wraps Preseason At Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Rogers State Women's Basketball team wrapped up their preseason on Saturday, taking on Big Ten opponent Nebraska in an exhibition game at the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
 
The Hillcats, who went up against former Rogers State coach Amy Williams in her fourth season at Nebraska, fell in the game to the Division I team 97-33.
 
Newcomer Vanessa Gajdosova led the Hillcats in scoring with eight points. Gajdosova also had a team high three assists.
 
Fellow newcomer Samariah Thompson and junior Lilly Garner each finished with six points. Thompson had a team high four rebounds in the game. Garner came off the bench hit a pair of threes, while also recording two rebounds, two assists and a steal.
 
Alicia Brown, a senior, and Alyche Brown, a freshman, became the first sisters to play in the same game and at the same time for the Hillcats. Alicia had five points, while Alyche had three points. Both players finished with three rebounds and Alyche had two assists and a steal.
 
Freshman Bailey Kliewer scored the other five points for the Hillcats in the game. Kliewer also had three rebounds, a block, a steal and an assist.
 
Katrina Christian led the Hillcats with two steals in the game. She also had a pair of rebounds and an assist.
 
The Hillcats were at their best in the second quarter, shooting 36 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc with three triples. They also held Nebraska to just 37 percent shooting in the quarter.
 
Rogers State had just four free throws on the night and finished with 27 rebounds in the game.
 
The Hillcats will now turn their focus to the season opener on Friday. Rogers State will open up the season in Aberdeen, South Dakota in the MIAA/Northern Sun Conference Challenge, facing host Northern State. The tip is set for noon on November 8 at Wachs Arena.
